We are fighting what I believe are chicken head lice.  We have been using Elector PSP twice, 7 days apart, and the cattle pour on ivermectin at the same time.  It seems to resolve the issue pretty quickly, but it recurs.  We do treat all the birds whenever we see signs.  Our Ameraucana get them in the beards, and you can sometimes find just a few eggs under the throat of other breeds.

For the Elector, we do the under wing and around the vent sprays, and then we add a few sprays under the throat. I’m wondering if that’s the best application method for this type of louse?  Soaking or dunking would be hard to soak the head without getting it in thier eyes and beak.

What would you add or change?  We don’t have enough birds at this point to cull those with worse infestations.

Our runs all have dirt areas they dust bathe in, but I am working on adding an old tire filled with sand into each one.  There’s lots of sand available when the free range, but the breeders don’t free range often if ever.  Will add DE after listening to episode 142 with Dr. Gallardo.
