I like the protein level, but the calcium level is high at 4%. 2% would be better.

I would not use Rabbit pellets, pig pellets, dog food, or cat food.

Rabbit and pig feeds are high in salt and really bad for chickens.

Just for useful information – Dog and cat food are also high in salt and high in fat, and have chicken byproducts in them.

These are big no/no’s

A lot of grain, but needs a lot more pellet. It’s also heavy in milo.

In this mix, I would like to see more pellet and less grain. It has a lot of milo, which is a filler. I would also like to get rid of the oats.

I can cut out the rabit pellets but dont have any more options to raise the protein levels other than the mash or the 22% lay pellets. Only have 1 feed store around here

Try using the pellet with the highest protein and reduce the grain. Only use the grain to balance the protein level at 18 to 20%

The Protein is good, but the lysine is high, the salt is high, it’s lacking in manganese, and Vitamin percents are really high too. 

Are you sure this is for chickens?

It says all livestock. Cattle, swine, sheep,and poultry. Would it be good to add at least maybe 40lbs of it to 250 lbs of mix?

I think if you mix this 50/50 with a grain mix or gamecock feed, you should be good. Just watch their weights and watch their urate levels (the amount of white in the droppings which would indicate high salt or ester of uric acid).

This is 50% of 14% gamecock mix and 50% of the 25% Nutri broost mixed together.

This actually looks pretty good. And it puts you at the right protein level too, just under 20%.

Just so you know, I’m interviewing one the top Poultry Nutritionist in the country. He’s coming on the Bred to Perfection show soon. In fact, I’m writing the outline for the show right now, and should be sending it to him, hopefully this Monday.

I’m so excited to do this episode. I taught with him and a number of poultry conferences and seminars, and we both did panels with each other. So I know how good he is.

I am currently feeding a 50/50 mix of these two feeds. Do you believe this to be a good mixture? I feed 2.5oz in the morning and 2.5oz in the evening. I have listened to the podcast with Jeff but there is so much information in there I’m going to need to watch it a couple more times.

the Hi-Spirt mix is very low on protein and amino acids.

The Nutrina mix (feather fixer) is better, but I would use the Nutrina “All Flock”, it’s a much better feed for brood fowl.

After the podcast I had listened to of yours I figured the protein was low on the hi spirit. Mixing 50/50 I figured I was close to the 16%-17% mark on the protein? So I would be better off lookin for a higher protein and mixing with the all flock? I have very few birds so feed lasts me a while!

The amino acids are the lysine, methionine, cystine?

The All Flock is a very complete feed, and it’s 20 percent protein and the amino acids are at good levels. What I like about it too, is that I can add grains to it, and not take away from the All Flock too much.

The Protein looks good, but the amino acids are low or non existent. It has a lot of grains, but is very low on high protein pellets.
