For me I have used these birds that were exceptional in performance and type. To me it’s not degeneration if the bird is strong and has the qualities. For example, in 2012 I raised a cock bird in my Birmingham Roller Pigeons. He was amazing in the air best I’d ever seen in all my years. He was fast and had depth of about 60 feet, but what really got me about this bird was his speed. This bird could blur when rolling and you could hear the wind coming off him when he was coming down. He turned out to be a phenomenal breeder. He’s 13 now and I believe he’s went sterile which is sad, but I’ve got several sons and one daughter and multiple grandkids to keep this particular line going.
Degeneration for me is when you seen traits in a bird that makes it a weaker specimen or the bird has a lot of faults that makes it weak. I’m sure there’s certain traits that can appear that makes it pop out to you when your looking at type on a gamecock or anything else that shows that the blood line is getting weaker and when they’re like that those should be discarded.
